GRANDE DUNES RESORT CLUB NAMED “2008 MYRTLE BEACH GOLF COURSE OF THE YEAR” BY MYRTLE BEACH AREA GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION

July 14, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Grande Dunes Resort Club was recently chosen as the “2008 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year” by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association (MBAGCOA). Grande Dunes is now eligible for the state and national “Golf Course of the Year” awards to be announced later this fall.

For the “Golf Course of the Year” award, the MBAGCOA judged and evaluated area courses on golf course conditions, quality of ownership and management, contributions to the community and efforts to improve the growth of the game. Grande Dunes was chosen for its strength in each of these areas. The Grande Dunes Resort Club and Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities including The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Conway Medical Center, Victory Junction Gang, Special Olympics and Patriot’s Golf Day. The Grande Dunes Resort Club is also committed to introducing the game to golfers of all ages through their active participation in Play Golf America and The First Tee of Myrtle Beach program.

“We are honored to have been selected as the ‘2008 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year,’” said Mike Buccerone, senior director, Grande Dunes clubs and amenities. “Since opening in May of 2001, the Grande Dunes Resort Club has attracted golfers from around the world to enjoy our award-winning course, first-class amenities and impeccable service.”

“This is a compliment to the hard work of the Grande Dunes Resort Club staff to be selected as the top course in the area,” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president. “Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management has established our position as leaders in the community and we hope to represent the Myrtle Beach area well on the state and national level.”

“The Resort Course at Grande Dunes is the epitome of what we consider a worthy ‘Golf Course of the Year,’” said George Hilliard, Executive Director of the MBAGCOA. “They met and exceeded all of the criteria that we designate for the award and we wish them luck at the state level.”

The National Golf Course Owners Association implemented the award in 1996 and the MBAGCOA has since nominated courses from the Myrtle Beach area. Past recipients of the regional award include Wachesaw Plantation East (2007), Burning Ridge (2006), TPC of Myrtle Beach (2005), Indian Wells Golf Club (2004), World Tour Golf Links (2003), Wild Wing Plantation (2002), Blackmoor (2001), Tradition Golf Club (2000), Bay Tree Golf Plantation (1999), Arrowhead Country Club (1998) and Myrtle Beach National’s King’s North (1996). Five of the Myrtle Beach regional winners also captured the state award; Burning Ridge, TPC, Wild Wing, Tradition, Arrowhead and King’s North. World Tour was named as the national “Golf Course of the Year” and is the only Grand Strand golf course to achieve that honor to date.
