MEMORIAL PLANS FOR JUNE 18

June 18, 2008 will mark one year from the day of the death of the Charleston Nine firefighters who perished in the fire at 1807 Savannah Highway, the former location of the Sofa Super Store. On Wednesday, June 18, there will be a Memorial Service at the Gaillard Auditorium at 10:00 AM to honor and remember the firefighters.  The service will last approximately one hour.  Seating will be limited in the auditorium and family and firefighters will be seated first. There will be a closed circuit TV set up in the Exhibition Hall of the Gaillard for any overflow attendance.

On the evening of June 18, there will be a private service for families of the fallen firefighters and City of Charleston firefighters at the site of the Sofa Super Store.

The evening ceremony will not be open to the public or media.

We will be notifying all media of parking/staging areas for the morning event as the event gets closer.  If you plan on setting up for the evening ceremony, please let us know and we will try to accommodate your needs. However, please understand that public and media will not be allowed to film or attend the ceremony being held for the families and firefighters at the site of the fire.
