FREE TROLLEY DOWNTOWN LOOP TO BEGIN SERVICE

11/22/2010

Charleston, SC.  Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., will be joined by representatives of the State Ports Authority and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau to talk about the new free downtown Trolley service on Thursday, November 18 at 11:00 AM. The service, credited by Mayor Riley as an idea from the Peninsula Task Force, will begin on Monday, November 22.

The group will gather near a Trolley in front of City Hall and Washington Square on Broad Street.  The free service will create a more utilized service, take cars off the street and provide easy access to downtown residents, businesses and visitors to connect them with shopping, dining, meetings and schools with a 10 minute loop route.

Funding for the service was provided by the City of Charleston, SC Ports Authority and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and there is no cost to CARTA for provision of the Trolley.  The system will be running in time for the holiday shopping season
