MYRTLE BEACH GOLF HOLIDAY AND BAREFOOT RESORT & GOLF RECEIVE HOSPITALITY HONOR AWARD
Marketing Cooperative and Resort Honored for Hosting Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament
May 23, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association (MBAHA) honored Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and Barefoot Resort & Golf Wednesday, May 21 in its annual Hospitality Honor Awards meeting. The Hospitality Honor Award acknowledges the individuals and companies who define the hospitality industry in the Myrtle Beach area in the categories of lodging/campgrounds, attractions/entertainment, restaurants, golf, hospitality services, excellence in leadership, friend of the industry and volunteer of the year.
Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and Barefoot Resort & Golf were recognized for their ongoing support of the Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament. Golf Holiday and Barefoot Resort & Golf have been involved in all six of the Monday After the Masters Tournaments held on the Grand Strand. The Monday After The Masters recorded its third consecutive sellout in 2008, as an estimated 6,000 golf fans packed The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf on April 14, 2008, to see their favorite celebrities, athletes and musicians. Recently named by Golf for Women Magazine as one of the most popular celebrity pro-am golf tournaments in the country, the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament attracts thousands of people to the Grand Strand area each year who enjoy the music of the two-time Grammy award winners as well as the friendly competition between the band and their celebrity and PGA professional friends. Over the past 13 years, the tournament has donated more than $3.5 million to the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational needs of South Carolina and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.
“You can’t host successful events like the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament without strong commitment and support from the local community,” said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “Barefoot Resort & Golf has done an exceptional job in providing phenomenal golf facilities, superb accommodations and unsurpassed customer service since the Monday After the Masters moved to the Myrtle Beach area in 2003. It is a pleasure to work with Barefoot Resort & Golf each year and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship as we continue to let golfers know about the quality of Myrtle Beach as a golf and family vacation destination.”
