PGA TOUR event honored for Best Advertising Campaign

The Heritage earns “Best Of” award at PGA TOUR Tournament Advisory Council Meetings

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL — The Heritage (Hilton Head Island, SC) was honored by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Advisory Council (TAC) Meetings this week.

The Heritage earned “Best Advertising Campaign” for creating and successfully implementing a new theme for the 2010 tournament, “Get your plaid on.” The campaign was aimed to celebrate the vibrant  social atmosphere and unique features that set The Heritage apart  from other PGA TOUR stops, as well as emphasizing the tournament’s  involvement in the Hilton Head community and other surrounding cities.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to acknowledge and congratulate the outstanding job and special recognition The Heritage has received for its efforts,” said PGA TOUR EVP and Chief of Operations Andy Pazder. “The tournament committee should be extremely proud for being acknowledged as the best among its peers on TOUR.”

The campaign included a Public Relations campaign centered around Sir  William Innes, the gentleman golfer who has been a fixture on the  tournament logo since the event’s inception. “Willie” made  appearances all over the state and at many local community events throughout the year to help promote the 2010 Heritage, as well as developing his own social media presence with a Facebook and Twitter page.

“We are thrilled to receive the award for Best Advertising Campaign by the PGA TOUR,” said The Heritage Tournament Director Steve Wilmot. “There was a lot of though and effort that went into the campaign, and it was a great boost to the overall awareness of the event in the community and the state. We will continue the theme of “Get your plaid on” in 2011.”

The 2011 Heritage, captured in 2010 by FedExCup champion Jim Furyk, will be held April 21-24 at Harbour Town Golf Links.
