HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- South Carolina's only PGA TOUR tournament, The Heritage, and the PGA TOUR announced today that an agreement has been reached to hold the event in 2011.  The Heritage Classic Foundation has been working daily since the tournament ended in April to confirm the future of the event.

While the tournament dates have now been secured for 2011 even without a title sponsor, The Heritage Classic Foundation continues its search.  "The importance of naming a title sponsor is paramount to the long term future of The Heritage and we will continue to do everything possible to find a partner," Simon Fraser, Heritage Classic Foundation Chairman, said. "However, we are very excited knowing The Heritage is on the PGA TOUR schedule for next year."

Fraser acknowledged the importance of the recent financial support from both the Town of Hilton Head Island and Beaufort County. "Today's announcement would not have been possible without their commitments.  No one knows better than the citizens of this community the positive economic impact this tournament has on our region and businesses."

The Heritage will be played the week of April 18-24, 2011, one week later than its' traditional April date. The change is due to a PGA TOUR scheduling issue and the fact that there is one extra week between The Masters and The Players Championship.  According to the PGA TOUR, the change is for one year only.

The 43rd annual Heritage will once again be played on Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.  With the date change, the 2011 Heritage will share the tournament week with the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in Savannah, Georgia, offering great golf action for fans in both locations.

"The Heritage is part of the fabric of the Hilton Head and Lowcountry communities, and the continuation of the event is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers and local sponsors," Tournament Director Steve Wilmot said. "The players love coming back to the Harbour Town Golf Links and Hilton Head and we look forward to welcoming them with our special South Carolina hospitality."
